Social Science Imagination: Session Three

Summary:

I felt that we had a really good session last night with lots of interesting conversations about a range of different themes. Whilst some of these themes were emotive, as a group, we were able to explore the links between personal biography, history and wider social structures quite well. What really stuck out for me is how the group is already analysing and critiquing complex issues and beginning to think about alternatives. At the end of the session we were able to agree three main themes that we will explore as a group and highlighted a number of intersecting themes than run through each of the main themes.

  • Meaning
  • Equality/inequality

In preparation for next week…

For next week we agreed to engage with some material to help us explore the first theme of education. We agreed to read the Chapter 2 of Paulo Friere’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed, which Sarah has kindly provided along with some other useful materials that relate to the theme of education.
