French visitors coming to Lincoln 16-18th September. They are setting up alternative higher education provision in Paris and would like to meet us and to attend the Public Seminar 17th September. Members were asked to specify individual meeting times. Generally it was agreed that it would be good to meet our visitors as a group, if possible.
Accommodation will be provided by members: Sarah A and Laura S
Timing and format now agreed with Richard Keeble. 15 minutes to be pre-recorded linked to SSI programme. Members asked to confirm when they are available to do recordings and on what topic.
Nomad Trust and Volunteer Centre
Gary reported very positive meetings with voluntary organisations in the city. He felt we may be better known outside of Lincoln and around the world than we are in own city. He reported on a number of forthcoming events ran by the voluntary sector in Lincoln where we have been asked to attend and publicise the work of the SSC.
Meeting discussed the most appropriate ways of engaging with these groups, including sessions designed to fit particular needs and abilities of the user groups, e.g., homelessness, the criminal justice system. One particular issue for local groups is training/education on advocacy. All agreed that this work needs to be shared among the SSC group.
Since the last meeting a commissioned article for Radical Philosophy has been written jointly and sent off. Interview with Mike N for Class War U now posted on SSC website. Gary has written a piece for the Lincolnite on the relationship between the history of working class higher education provision and the SSC now published.
Prospectus – work has begun on SSC prospectus, Joss to circulate draft with comments on the draft that have already been received. Can members please send any other comments to Joss W.

Mike to contact Home Start and to draft a statement on this matter for others to comment and edit. This to be done before our next General Meeting
Meeting ended 1.20pm
